The preparation of higher education candidates for the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Sciences at the National Aerospace University "KHAI" is carried out through postgraduate and doctoral studies in accordance with the "Procedure for the Training of Higher Education Candidates for the Degrees of Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Sciences in Higher Educational Institutions", approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated March 23 No. 261 of 2016.

In accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education", starting from 2016, postgraduate training has been brought into line with the European standard of the third level of higher education. In particular, an educational component of training at the educational-scientific level - doctor of philosophy (PhD) - was introduced, which was not present in the previous model of training of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel in graduate school.

The training of higher education applicants for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in postgraduate studies is carried out according to the educational and scientific program and curriculum approved by the academic council of the university for each specialty. The educational and scientific program and curriculum of postgraduate studies consists of educational and scientific components.

In accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education", postgraduate studies will last  four years.

All graduate students, regardless of the form of study, are required to attend classroom classes and pass all forms of current and final control provided for by the individual study plan of the graduate student and the educational and scientific program of the university's graduate program.

A mandatory condition for admission to the defense of the dissertation is the successful completion of the graduate student's individual study plan.

Dissertation defense is mandatory during a stay at a graduate school (within 4 years). Postgraduate studies can be full-time, evening, or part-time. But for correspondence postgraduate courses, in accordance with clause 31 of the Procedure for the preparation of higher education applicants for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, there is no state order.

In order to obtain the degree of Doctor of Sciences, i.e. to complete certain scientific studies and document their results and to prepare the publications necessary for the defense of the dissertation, a person has the right to enter the doctoral program of a higher educational institution. Doctoral studies are carried out for 2 years.

Starting in 2016, postgraduate study is mandatory for all those preparing a dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, with the exception of persons engaged in scientific work at an institution of higher education or at a scientific institution. Such persons can obtain the degree of Doctor of Philosophy without enrolling in postgraduate studies, but only in the specialty for which a valid license for postgraduate studies is valid at their place of work (Clause 34 of the Procedure for the Training of Higher Education Candidates for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy).

A graduate student or doctoral student who defended his defense before the end of the period of training in graduate school or doctoral school has the right, at his own choice:

- to receive a one-time payment in the amount of the remaining scholarship provided for in the budget of the higher educational institution for the relevant calendar year, and at his own request to be deducted from postgraduate or doctoral studies;

- to receive a paid academic leave at one's own request for the period remaining until the end of the normative period of training in postgraduate or doctoral studies.

If a graduate student defended a thesis in the second or third year of training at a graduate school and was selected through a competition for the relevant position of a scientific (scientific and pedagogical) employee at such a higher educational institution, the total amount of the remaining scholarship is credited to him as a monthly salary supplement

Features of preparation

In order to properly conduct scientific research, graduate students and doctoral students have the right to:

a) academic mobility, which is implemented in accordance with the "Regulations on the procedure for implementing the right to academic mobility", approved by Resolution No. 5794 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated August 12, 2015;

b) academic leave, in particular due to the state of health, in connection with pregnancy and childbirth, to take care of a child until it reaches the age of three, in accordance with the legislation..
